Pat Tillman selected for College Football Hall of Fame

Former ASU linebacker Pat Tillman has been selected for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation announced Thursday.

Tillman played for the Sun Devils from 1994-1997, earning Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1997. He was a key member of a 1996 team that went undefeated before falling to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl.

After playing for the Arizona Cardinals for four seasons, Tillman joined the Army Rangers in 2002, following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Tillman was killed in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004, but has left a lasting legacy in the ASU community and across the nation.

In 2004, friends and family members of Tillman created the Pat Tillman Foundation, which works to provide resources and educational support to veterans. The foundation's signature event, Pat's Run, had more than 27,000 participants this year.

ASU will honor Tillman during a home football game this fall.
