Police Beat: June 21


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Sunday:

Thursday

A 42-year-old Phoenix woman was arrested at around 2 p.m. near West Indian School Road and North 59th Avenue in Phoenix on suspicion of identity theft, according to a police report.

The woman was suspected of using another person’s name and social security number since November 2003 for a maintenance service job in Tempe, police reported.

She was taken to Tempe City Jail where she was held to see a judge, according to the report.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at Margarita Rocks Beach Club on Mill Avenue at around 11:30 p.m. on suspicion of disorderly conduct and carrying marijuana, police reported.

Club security saw the man inside the business with a baggy filled with what they believed to be marijuana, according to a police report.

When they tried removing the man from the club, he put up a struggle and caused a disruption, police reported.

He was taken to Tempe City Jail where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to a police report.

Friday

A 24-year-old Apache Junction man was arrested near South Mill Avenue and East Broadway Road at around 2 a.m. on suspicion of possessing dangerous drugs and shoplifting, according to a police report.

The man was seen leaving a Walgreens on Mill Avenue with another person carrying about $80 worth of food and merchandise without paying, police reported.

A vehicle picked the man up and attempted to drive away, but an officer stopped the vehicle and arrested the man after a Walgreens employee identified him as the suspected shoplifter, according to a police report.

Police found a baggie containing a usable amount of methamphetamine after searching the man, police reported.

The man was taken to Tempe City Jail and held to see a judge, according to a report.

A 23-year-old Phoenix man was arrested at around 8:30 p.m. in Tempe on suspicion of aggravated assault, according to a police report.

Investigators believe the man struck his girlfriend and the mother of his child about five to six times using a wooden object, police reported.

The women were struck on the arms, legs and wrists and required medical attention, according to a police report.

The man was taken to Tempe City Jail, police reported.

A 33-year-old Illinois man was arrested at around 2 a.m. near West Broadway Road and South Priest Drive on suspicion of possessing a dangerous drug, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to a police report.

Police stopped the man, performed a search and found a usable amount of marijuana and methamphetamine as well as needles with drug residue on his person, police reported.

The man could also be charged with trafficking stolen property after he admitted to police that he pawned a stolen bike in an unrelated incident on May 5, according to a police report.

He was booked into Tempe City Jail and released pending drug charges, police reported.
