ASU to honor military with ticket donation

In conjunction with the Veteran Tickets Foundation, Sun Devil Athletics will donate one ticket for every ticket purchased to the September 11 home football game against Northern Arizona as part of its Salute to Our Troops program.

The Veteran Tickets Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides free entrance to sporting events for active duty military personnel, veterans and their families.

The foundation’s staff is made up entirely of veterans, many of which are also ASU graduates.

Most recognizable is former ASU defensive tackle Jeremy Staat.

Staat, after playing on the 1996 ASU Rose Bowl team and professionally, joined the Marine Corps in 2005 after his college friend, Pat Tillman, was killed in action.

The event has current ASU football players excited about the opportunity at hand.

“I’m actually growing my hair out in honor of Pat Tillman,” ASU junior tight end Trevor Kohl said. “He’s always been someone I’ve looked up to even when he was a Sun Devil [and I was] watching him as a little kid. I’m an American through and through and I can’t wait to support it. I have friends in the army, family in the army, [so] it’s going to be something worth while.”
