If ever there were an example of how quickly the landscape of sports can change, it has been this summer.

For a month, soccer was the most popular sport in the U.S. as World Cup fever took over, as it tends to do every four years. Only a longer run from the U.S. team could have extended Americans’ love affair with the game.

The NBA saw more change than anything else as free agents bolted for big money in new locations, and one particular superstar took his talents to South Beach. On top of that, Tracy McGrady and Allen Iverson, once top-five players, were reduced to ‘last resort’ options.

Ilya Kovalchuk signed the longest contract in NHL history, a 17-year deal that would pay him until he is 44 years old, but the NHL finally took a stand and rejected the deal.

In the NFL, it was just a few seasons ago that Terrell Owens was one of the league’s elite receivers, but few teams were interested in the 36-year-old’s services this offseason so he ended up joining Chad Ochocinco in Cincinnati.

But wait, Brett Favre was uncertain if he’d retire or play next season? Some things never change.
