The bright lights of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa have faded and most casual American soccer fans have gone into a four-year hibernation.

And at the worst possible time too.

The USA Bid Committee is campaigning to bring either the 2018 or 2022 edition of the FIFA World Cup to the U.S.

The U.S. is one of the few countries that has the resources to immediately put on a World Cup, which is attractive to FIFA, who decides who will host the tournament.

But where we as Americans lose points is in our enthusiasm for the game. And when we’re competing against England, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands, our competition is pretty stiff.

The U.S. last hosted a World Cup in 1994 and still holds the record for largest total attendance for any World Cup in history.

The USA Bid Committee is asking for people to sign an online petition to bring the world’s largest soccer competition to the U.S. All you have to do is submit your e-mail address.

As of Monday night, nearly 984,000 people had signed.

So show your support, go to www.gousabid.com, and help bring the World Cup back to the United States.

And then you can go back to sleep.
