Smoke inside the Stauffer Communication Arts building on the Tempe campus forced an evacuation of students and faculty around 1 p.m. Thursday, according to police.

ASU Police Department spokesman Cmdr. Jim Hardina said a piece of equipment in the building burned up, creating smoke but no fire.

There were no reported injuries, he said.

Environmental Health and Safety officials were testing the air quality of the building, which was closed for the rest of the day Thursday.

The building will re-open under approval of EHS, Hardina said.
