Formal approval of Esmay’s contract Thursday

ASU baseball coach Tim Esmay will be officially considered for the full-time head coaching position Thursday at the Arizona Board of Regents meeting.

Esmay’s proposed three-year contract includes an annual salary of  $170,000.

Esmay was originally offered the position in June, but has had to wait for his contract to be approved by ABOR.

Before he took on the role of interim head coach in December, Esmay had served as an assistant head coach for five years.

Esmay’s contracted salary will be reevaluated in July 2011 based on the success of the team’s upcoming season. He could receive up to a 10 percent increase if the team wins the NCAA College World Series, according to ABOR documents.

The baseball team had much success throughout the 2010 season under Esmay’s leadership, including remaining the No. 1 seed in the nation for six weeks and ending the season ranked fourth before being eliminated after two games at the College World Series.
