The 2010 Ping/Golfweek Preview continued Monday for the ASU men’s golf team. The Sun Devils teed off for their second round of play in the early morning.
ASU posted a team score of 307 for the second consecutive round. With a cumulative team score of 614 from the first two rounds, the Sun Devils fell two places in the standings to 11th place.
Oklahoma State, who is two-time reigning tournament champion, heads into the final day of the tournament in the top spot with a team score of 584.
On day two, junior Phil Francis made the jump from a tie for 34th place to a several-player tie for 26th. After shooting a 77 in the opening round, Francis fired a 73 on Monday.
Senior James Byrne entered round two in a tie for 8th place. However, after shooting a 78 on Monday, Byrne dropped into the 36th.
Senior Jesper Kennegard and junior Spencer Fletcher also competed in round two. Kennegard rose two spots up to a tie for 60th place with his 77 on day two. Fletcher sliced three strokes off his first round score to shoot a 79 on Monday.
Senior Scott Pinckney withdrew from competition on Monday. Pinckney recorded a 74 in round one to sit in a tie for 8th place.
The Sun Devils will conclude tournament play today. ASU trails 10th place Virginia by only five strokes heading into the final round.
