Police Beat: Sept. 8


ASU Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:

  • The Memorial Union on the Tempe campus was evacuated around 6:50 p.m. Saturday due to smoke, police reported.The smoke was reported from Room 220, and after response from the Tempe Fire Department, the building was declared safe to re-enter around 8:50 p.m., according to a police report.Tempe Fire concluded the smoke was the result of an unknown mechanical or electrical problem, police reported.There was no damage to the building, according to a report.
  • An unknown person or persons committed theft Sunday by taking a computer and wallet belonging to two female students, ages 20 and 21, police reported.The items were taken out of the students’ purses in Room 220 of the Memorial Union on the Tempe campus, according to a police report.The estimated loss is $853, police reported.There are no suspects, leads or witnesses, according to a report.
  • An unknown person or persons committed theft Friday by taking a backpack from Hassayampa Academic Village on the Tempe campus, police reported.The backpack, belonging to a 19-year-old male student, contained his laptop, calculator and four textbooks, according to a police report.The estimated loss is $890, police reported.There are no suspects, leads or witnesses, according to a report.
  • An unknown person or persons committed theft Thursday by removing a laptop computer from the Classroom/Lab/Computer Classroom Building (CLCC) building on the West campus, police reported.The estimated loss is $1,000, according to a police report.There are no suspects, leads or witnesses, police reported.
  • An unknown person or persons committed criminal damage between Aug. 29 and Friday in Manzanita Hall, police reported.Residence hall staff found a hole in a wall on the fourth floor of the building, according to a police report.A 21-year-old male student was named as an investigative lead, police reported.The estimated loss is $100, according to a report.
  • An unknown person or persons committed theft between 8:30 p.m. Aug. 31 and 3:40 p.m. Sep. 1 by taking a bicycle belonging to a 17-year-old female student, police reported.The bicycle was taken from the Rural Road Parking Structure on the Tempe campus, according to a police report.The estimated loss is $350, police reported.There are no suspects, leads or witnesses, according to a report.
