Former ASU wrestler Cain Velasquez claimed the UFC heavyweight title with a first round TKO of Brock Lesnar on Saturday night.

Velasquez fought off a strong start from Lesnar before dropping him to the ground and leaving him with a bloodied face.

The clock officially stopped at 4:01 of the first round.

Velasquez is now 9-0 with eight TKOs in his UFC career.

As a member of the ASU wrestling team in 2005, Velasquez was named the Pac-10 Wrestler of the Year.

That same year, he finished 36-5 and placed fifth at the NCAA Championships.

He was also an All-American and a Pac-10 Champion in the heavyweight class.

Velasquez currently sits at third in career bonus point wins, tied for fourth in career technical fall wins and seventh in career major decision wins in ASU’s history since 1994.

His wrestling career at ASU finished with 50 wins and 10 losses, and he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education.
