ASU tennis senior Micaela Hein dropped her second round match in the second day of singles competition at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships and has been eliminated from the tournament.
After rain pushed the tournament back an entire day, Hein was able to play her second match of the tournament.
Hein, the No. 12 seed, fell to Florida sophomore Caroline Hitimana. Hein won her first set 6-2, but Hitimana rallied back to win the second and third sets 7-6 and 6-1.
Hein has been eliminated from the tournament and will return to Arizona on Thursday. She will not be competing in the consolation round because the consolation round is reserved for the athletes that lost their first match. Each player is guaranteed to play two matches.
Hein was victorious on the first day of competition Tuesday. In the first match, she beat Georgia Tech junior Jillian O’Neill in two sets 7-5 and 6-4.
Hitimana will move on to compete in the final match of the qualifying draw. She will face SMU junior Marta Lesniak.
The winner of the match will move on to the main draw of the tournament.
Lesniak defeated UNLV freshman Lucia Batta 6-4 and 7-6 on Wednesday.
The tournament singles qualifying round is scheduled to finish Thursday, and the singles main draw will last through Oct. 10.
