I thought I was supposed to be upset at the zebras.

You know the ones, the guys that are consistently ruining the game for your team.

Referees.

But now, thanks to more league involvement, I’m not sure who to be upset with anymore.

I thought football was the sport to play when you wanted to hurt the opponent.

I remember watching “The Little Giants” and hoping I didn’t end up planted two feet into the ground.

It made for an exciting game of chase.

But it’s being taken away, and not by the guys in black and white stripes.

League executives have decided that they need to clean up the game, the same smash mouth, physical game that has been advertised for years.

And they’re doing it all wrong.

Helmet to helmet tackles are disturbing and should be penalized, but sometimes the speed and quickness of the game allows them to happen anyway.

Fining a player over $50,000 for an accidental helmet-to-helmet collision is out of control.

Players are taught to hit a certain way, and many times striving for those big hits keeps them coming out every Sunday.

The NFL needs to figure it out.

Injuries are no fun, but neither is a pass over the middle without the chance of a big hit.
