Police Beat: Oct. 11


Tempe police reported the following incidents Sunday:

  • A 29-year-old Tempe man was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Oct. 4 on suspicion of aggravated assault and aggravated domestic violence, police reported.A police investigation revealed the man entered the house of his child’s mother at West Southern Avenue and South Shafer Drive in Tempe through an unlocked but closed window, according to a police report.The man proceeded to strangle the woman to the ground and punch her with closed fists three to four times, causing the woman to be hospitalized, police reported.Hospital results were not available at the time of the man’s arrest, and he had two prior domestic violence convictions involving the same woman, according to a report.

    The man was booked into Tempe City Jail, police reported.

  • Two Tempe women, ages 21 and 29, were arrested around 1:15 p.m. Oct. 4 on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale, being in possession of marijuana and being in possession of drug paraphernalia, police reported.Police responded to the women’s apartment, on the 2000 block of East Broadway Road in Tempe, after it had been burglarized, according to a police report.Officers saw drug paraphernalia in the home, and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from a locked closet in the apartment, police reported.After a search warrant was served on the apartment, police discovered approximately three pounds of high-grade, hydroponically grown marijuana and a Glock handgun in the closet, according to a report.

    Both women were booked into Tempe City Jail and released pending charges, police reported.

  • A 27-year-old Tempe man was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Oct. 3 on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale, being in possession of marijuana, being in possession of a prescription-only drug and being in possession of drug paraphernalia, police reported.After the man was contacted during a vehicle stop at South Rural Road and East Geneva Drive in Tempe, police discovered a marijuana pipe, numerous bags with packaged marijuana, one pill of Tramadol, a prescription-only painkiller, $589 in cash and $24,940 in money order receipts in the car, according to a police report.The man was booked into Tempe City Jail and released pending charges, police reported.
