Police Beat: Oct. 4


Tempe police reported the following incidents Sunday:

  • A 30-year-old Tempe woman was arrested around 6:30 p.m. Thursday on suspicion of aggravated assault and aggravated assault on a police officer, police reported.A witness told police the woman had been physically assaulting two people in a parking lot on the 5000 block of South Hardy Drive in Tempe, according to a police report.The woman then tried to run over the two people in her sedan, and then attempted to punch a uniformed police officer as he was giving her commands to back away from everybody in the parking lot, police reported.The woman was booked into Tempe City Jail, according to a report.
  • A 35-year-old transient man was arrested around 2:30 a.m. Thursday on suspicion of possession of a vapor-releasing substance and shoplifting, police reported.The man was observed huffing a can of dust cleaner in a bathroom of a Wal-Mart near East Southern Avenue and South Rural Road in Tempe, according to a police report.The man admitted to taking the dust cleaner from a display in the store and ingesting it in the bathroom, police reported.The man was booked into Tempe City Jail and released pending charges, according to a report.
  • A 46-year-old Mesa man was arrested around 11 a.m. Tuesday on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property, police reported.The man admitted to entering a Red Roof Inn near West 15th Street and South 52nd Street in Tempe by force, and removing $2,000 worth of property, according to a police report.The man was booked into Tempe City Jail, police reported.
  • A 42-year-old Tempe man was arrested around 12:45 a.m. Sept. 26 on suspicion of possession of marijuana, being in possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI, police reported.Police found the man passed out in his running vehicle at East Hermosa Drive and South Grandview Avenue in Tempe, according to a police report.Upon contacting the man, he stumbled out of his vehicle, had slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol, police reported.The man refused a breath test and field sobriety tests, but was arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to a report.

    During a search of the vehicle, police found a bag of marijuana and two glass pipes in the center console, and two more pipes in the trunk, police reported.

    The man was booked into Tempe City Jail and released pending drug charges, according to a report.
