Do you ever get dressed up to go out to the movies? People did Friday night at the opening of the Scottsdale International Film Festival.

How often can you go see a film in a different language? Well you can now until October 5.

Tonight's film was "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest." The film was the final in Stieg Larsson's "Millennium-trilogy." The trilogy consisted of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest."

I had not seen any of the previous films or read the books, so I was kind of confused for about the first hour or so. I'll be honest, but it all worked itself out and I understood.

According to the festival site, this is the plot: "Lisbeth Salander is fighting for her life in more ways than one. In intensive care and charged with three murders, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce the very same corrupt government institutions that nearly destroyed her life. Once upon a time, she was a victim. Now Salander is fighting back."

It doesn't tell you much — or maybe it does if you know what's going on. The point is that the film was really enjoyable. It was in Swedish, but I was definitely intrigued with the plot. I wanted to keep reading those lines and watching the actors. They did a great job. So if you get a chance to watch any of the movies, do it! If you get a chance to read the books, do it! I just might have to someday soon.

Opening night of the festival was at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. The rest of the festival will be held at Harkins Camelview 5 Theatre. To see the address and ticket information, click here.

There are a bunch of movies lined up, so pick one that sounds interesting. You have four more days to experience the festival. (Yay.) It's a nice experience, because it's not your typical trip to the movie theater.

Also, this is the tenth anniversary for the festival. Congrats, festival! It was my first time attending. Let it be your first time too. Harkins Camelview is right next to Scottsdale Fashion Square, so it's super convenient for the Tempe campus students and not too far for everyone else.

Go enjoy a film or two or five and let me know what you think.
