It’s a two-for-three deal in the NBA.
Trade two players, one backup guard and one with an expiring contract, add some cash and you’ll get three decent players in return.
In a five-player trade, the New Orleans Hornets will send Peja Stojakovic, Jerryd Bayless and a bunch of cash to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Jarrett Jack, Marcus Banks and David Andersen.
If you think the Hornets won this trade, think again.
The Hornets essentially traded Stojakovic, who is averaging 7.5 points per game this season, for Jack, a backup point guard.
The Raptors didn’t come out of this trade much richer either. Stojakovic’s contract is expiring, leaving the Raptors with tradable assets that will be tricky to get a good value on. Not to mention, it will be even trickier with the summer trade exception from Chris Bosh.
Bayless seems like he’s a great addition for the Raptors because he’s younger and has great potential, but Jack has better stats. Jack is averaging 10.8 points per game this season, while Bayless is averaging 4.5. Granted, Bayless has had to share court time with Chris Paul.
Only time will tell which team made out better in this trade.
