Citizens of the United States of America, you can breathe easy. BCS bowl-buster hopeful Boise State is out of the championship hunt.

I honestly have nothing against the Broncos. The Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma in 2007 was one of the most exciting games I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching.

But I’m glad BSU finally lost. I just couldn’t take any more arguing. Oregon and Auburn have tougher schedules. It doesn’t matter that a team has a few solid victories when a large portion of the schedule is filled with cream puffs.

Luckily, none of that matters now after BSU’s 34-31 overtime loss to Nevada.

However, this is only a temporary solution to the problem. BSU will come back next year with a vengeance, and the whole cycle will start over again. I know this has been said before, but we need a playoff system.

In other news, Notre Dame beat USC for the first time in nine tries. While I love the Irish, this was the sloppiest game I’ve seen all year and probably reflects how far USC has fallen rather than how good Notre Dame is. But I’m hoping this is the point where the Fighting Irish start to turn their program around.
