The WTA Championships took place last weekend and Venus and Serena didn’t compete.

The Williams sisters are two familiar faces that people recognize when watching women’s tennis.

Both sisters were unable to compete at the WTA Championships due to injuries, and neither sister has played competitively since the summer.

Serena had two operations on her right foot after she cut it on glass, and is still recovering. Venus has a bad left knee, and can’t play on it.

As of Nov. 1, the Williams sisters are ranked at No. 4 and No. 5 with Serena ahead of her sister in WTA rankings.

Venus has won seven Grand Slam singles titles while Serena has won 13. They are great players, but it seems like they’re letting their injuries force them into early retirement.

With two of the most familiar faces in women’s tennis unable to play, how will American viewership be affected?

If you look at the top 100 players, the U.S. has just seven players on the list while Russia has more than double that.

Without the Williams sisters, who will take over as the next American superstar tennis player? As of now, there is nobody to replace tennis’ super sisters.
