Men's swim and dive tops CSB, women fall to UCLA


ASU’s swim and dive teams saw mixed results Friday. The men earned their first win of the season, beating Cal State Bakersfield 162-127, while the women suffered their first loss to the No. 6 UCLA Bruins 168-132.

ASU won the first eight events of the day and ended up taking 15 of the 32 total events.

Freshman Tristin Baxter won both the 500- and the 1,000-yard freestyle events.

Hayden Thomas, also a freshman, won the 500-yard freestyle event for the second week in a row.

The ASU dive teams had strong performance as they won all four events.

ASU junior Elina Eggers won the women’s one-meter dive while freshman Hailey Casper finished third. Casper also won the three-meter dive.

The men swept both the three-meter and the one-meter dives. Sophomore Riley McCormick won the three-meter while juniors Constantin Blaha and Cameron Bradshaw finished second and third, respectively.

Blaha won the one-meter dive and was followed by McCormick and Bradshaw.

The Sun Devil dive team added a new member Friday when Sydney Czauz of Los Alamitos High School in California signed with ASU.

Czauz’ holds every record at Los Alamitos.

Czauz is also an honor student and was one of 11 girls from Southern California to be named a high school diving All American in 2010.
