Sophomore quarterback Osweiler to join men’s basketball team

ASU sophomore backup quarterback Brock Osweiler is about to become a multi-sport athlete.

According to an ASU athletics official, steps are being taken to have Osweiler join the men’s basketball team after the football season is over.

Osweiler was a two-sport star at Flathead High School in Kalispell, Mont. and originally committed to play basketball at Gonzaga in 2006.

Coming out of high school, Scout.com listed the 6-foot-8-inch Osweiler as a three-star basketball recruit.

According to NBC Montana Sports, who originally broke the story, a source close to Osweiler told the news station that ASU basketball coach Herb Sendek told the quarterback that there was a spot for him on the team, if he was interested.

After losing the quarterback battle to redshirt junior transfer Steven Threet this fall, Osweiler has played in three games and completed 13 of 24 passes for 150 yards.
