Tempe Police reported the following incidents Thursday:

  • A 45-year-old transient man was arrested at the intersection of 6th Street and Mill Avenue Saturday evening on suspicion of assault, disorderly conduct and failure to present ID, police reported.

    Police contacted the suspect after he punched another man in the neck while that man was trying to prevent the suspect from assaulting someone else, according to a police report.

    The suspect fled on foot when officers approached, police reported.

    He then refused commands to stop and pushed down an officer’s bike that was blocking him, according to a report.

    When officers attempted to detain him, he began swinging his hands at the officers, throwing several punches and striking an officer in the chin, police reported.

    The officers managed to detain him and transported him to Tempe City Jail where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to a police report.

  • A 23-year-old transient man was arrested Saturday evening on suspicion of theft, possession of narcotic drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and burglary, police reported.The man was contacted by police on the 1000 block of Mill Avenue and transported to Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital after he was discovered to be in an altered mental state, according to a police report.

    Officers noticed an unusual bulge in the groin of his pants and an investigation revealed the suspect had a sock lodged between two pairs of underwear the suspect was wearing, police reported.

    Hidden in the sock were 10 syringes, a plastic bag that contained a black substance appearing to be heroin, a bottle of prescription pills and other items used to prepare and inject heroin, according to a police report.

    The suspect was released from the hospital and taken to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked, released and then held on a warrant with a bond of $3,000, police reported.

ASU Police reported the following incidents Thursday:
  • An unknown person or persons committed criminal damage to a golf cart on the east side of the Physical Sciences A-Wing building between 5 p.m. on Jan. 18 and 1 p.m. on Jan. 19, police reported.The total estimated damage is $200, according to a police report.
  • An unknown person or persons stole a TI calculator from a secured drawer in the Palo Verde West building between 12 p.m. on Dec. 11 and 3 p.m. on Jan. 15, police reported.The total estimated loss is $80, according to a police report.
  • An unknown person or persons stole canisters used to contain parking meter coins at ASU’s Lot 52 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3:55 p.m. on Jan. 18, police reported.The total estimated loss is less than $20, police reported.

    There are no leads or suspects at this time, according to a police report.
