Police Beat: Jan. 27


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Wednesday:

  • A 31-year-old man was arrested Monday on suspicion of failing to carry identification on his person as a registered sex offender, police reported.

    He was contacted as the passenger of a vehicle stop at the intersection of 10th Street and Smith Road for failing to carry identification on his person, according to a police report.

    Investigation revealed the man to be a registered sex offender who was aware he was obligated to carry identification at all times, police reported.The man was booked into Tempe City Jail, according to the report.

  • A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug possession and an outstanding warrant following a vehicle stop at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to a police report.

    A records check revealed an outstanding warrant in Scottsdale for failure to appear and the man was driving on a suspended license, police reported.The man was placed under arrest and a body search revealed a usable amount of heroin in a plastic bag, according to a police report.

    The suspect stated under Miranda that he knew it was illegal to posses the heroin, police reported.

    The man was booked into Tempe City Jail where he was released pending charges, according to a report.

  • A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a police report.

    An employee at a Walgreens near South Mill Avenue and West Broadway Road called to report the man was “touching himself,” and he was arrested outside the store early Tuesday morning, police reported.Upon investigation, Tempe Police found the man to be in possession of methamphetamine, according to a police report.

    When the officer attempted to place the suspect under arrest, the man resisted by pulling away and attempting to strike the officer in the face, police reported.

    The man was arrested and transported to Tempe City Jail where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.

  • At approximately 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, a 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of probation violation and possession of an open container of alcohol, police reported.

    A Tempe Police officer observed an unknown man and three others grouped around an open 12-pack of beer behind a building located near South Rural Road and East Lemon Street, according to a police report.When the group noticed the officer, they emptied the open cans, police reported.

    The incident was related to a shoplifting incident of the beer from the Circle K approximately one block away from where the group was observed, according to the report.

    When the officer approached the man, he had no identification on him, police reported.

    A records check revealed the man to have an outstanding warrant with Maricopa County, police reported.
