After struggling in its last two tournaments, the ASU men’s golf team could use a win at the USC Collegiate Invitational, which starts Monday.

The annual tournament in Westlake Village, Calif., presents a unique opportunity for the Sun Devils, as six of the competing teams are in the top 25, including No. 2 UCLA.

ASU has won the invitational eight times since 1978, but the last victory came in 2001.

Looking to lead the team is senior Jesper Kennegard, who is coming off a tough finish in the team’s last tournament, during which he had a disastrous 11-over-par third round.

Kennegard tied for eighth in the same invitational last year.

On the other end of the spectrum, junior Philip Francis will be looking to keep his momentum going after placing seventh in the last tournament, his highest finish this spring.

Ultimately, the team’s finish will be determined on the last few holes, which was the case for the first two tournaments.
