The ASU men’s basketball team had a bad season, but there was something that was even worse.

That would be the student support at Wells Fargo Arena.

Quite frankly, it was terrible, the worst in the Pac-10.

Sure, I understand that it is hard to go and support a last place basketball team, but believe it or not, student support is vital to a program’s turnaround.

ASU features 70,440 students, including 56,562 undergraduates, the largest amount in the country.

All it would take is less than 10 percent of the undergraduate student body at the arena to fill it up.

So why is it important in a program’s turnaround?

The answer is simple.

If you are a top recruit coming in for a visit, wouldn’t you want to play in front of a packed student section?

Recruits don’t see that at ASU, but they do at UA.

Until fan support, especially student support, picks up, ASU is never going to have a consistently successful basketball program.

I won’t be at ASU next basketball season, but I urge the student body to muster up some support. Put off going out for a few hours and head to a basketball game. You have no right to complain about a team’s performance if you don’t offer your support.

Support your school, ASU, or things are never going to change.
