I have an addiction.

You see, I like sports. And the logical next step to this is that I like sports video games.

I think Madden is great, and I will gladly play any other EA Sports game with my friends on the weekend if I have time.

But I am completely addicted to FIFA 11.

It’s bad. I can watch a soccer game with two teams I’ve never watched before, and already know all the players because I just played that same game the other day on Xbox. Every spare chance I get, I’m artificially simulating Atletico Madrid against Celtic.

And I’m not even that good. If I turn the AI skill level up to “difficult,” I get hammered. The other day, I was soundly beaten by my girlfriend.

It doesn’t matter. I can rattle off five reasons why changing Argentina’s formation to a 4-3-1-2 will make the video game version of that team better. I never do, to protect everyone else around me from going insane. But that worthless knowledge is still stuck in my brain, and I can’t get it out.

Thanks a lot, EA Sports. I’m stuck in a football-simulating rut, and I don’t want to get out.
