Lockett named second team All-Pac-10

The Pac-10 announced its postseason men’s basketball awards on Monday and only two Sun Devils were honored for their efforts.

A year after earning All-Freshman honors, sophomore guard Trent Lockett was named second team All-Pac-10 by the conferences’ coaches.

Lockett led the Sun Devils in scoring at 13.1 points per game and his 5.3 rebounds per game was second on the team.

“I feel that’s what our program is about,” Lockett said of his progress. “I had a pretty solid season, a little bit of inconsistency, but more consistent than last year.”

One year after being named first team All-Pac-10, senior guard Ty Abbott was named Honorable Mention in 2011.

The Pac-10 also honored Abbott as the conference’s player of the week for his performance in ASU’s sweep of the Oregon schools.

He scored 22 points in both games, averaged 4.5 rebounds and five assists over the course of the weekend.

It is the third conference player of the week honor for Abbott, tying James Harden and Mario Bennett for third most in school history.

It was the first time a Sun Devil was honored with the award this season.

With the conference switching to the Pac-12 next season, Abbott will go down as the final Pac-10 Player of the Week ever.

“I’m happy to go in the record books for that,” Abbott said. “Nobody else can say they were the last one ever.”

UA forward Derrick Williams was named the conference’s player of the year and Wildcats coach Sean Miller took home coach of the year honors.

California guard Allen Crabbe was named freshman of the year, USC’s Marcus Simmons was named defensive player of the year and Washington’s Matthew Bryan-Amaning was given the award as the most improved player of the year.
