Off-road racing is a world that I had never experienced until I attended the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing series at Speedworld Offroad Park on Saturday.

It was an all-day extravaganza, and only the fans understand its meaning.

The racing stars range in age from 15 to 50, but even the pint-size junior karts, which can be driven by 6-year-olds, can sometimes steal the show.

It’s very competitive. Small bumps bring out the anger and victories come with showgirls and confetti.

It’s also a family thing.

The rivalry is clear but the support throughout a team and a family is obvious at every turn.

Groups scream as loud as possible even though it’s very clear that the drivers won’t here a single word.

The big names are stars here and unknown everywhere else. The big-time media coverage may never come, but that won’t ever stop these fans from having fun.

I like sports like this, where the fan base is loyal and the family ties run deep.

Stereotypes be damned, they are just having a good time.

From the Blanco Basura truck to the heavy advertisements of energy drinks, the off-road racing world is fun.
