I’m so tired of hearing that professional hockey can’t survive in the desert.
I could not disagree more.
The NHL and the Phoenix Coyotes can survive and prosper in Arizona.
The team possesses a strong and growing fan base here in the Valley of the Sun.
Sure, Glendale is never going to be Hockey Town USA and receive the massive fan support like teams in Canada or Detroit.
That’s just fine. Who said Phoenix needed to be Detroit?
Clearly, the key for the Coyotes is strong ownership. Jerry Moyes certainly didn’t do the franchise any favors during his tenure.
The mess surrounding the NHL, the Goldwater Institute and Matthew Hulsizer has to be cleared up. With the correct leadership, this team can stay in Phoenix.
Despite its early exit from the Stanley Cup playoffs, the team is not short on talent. Shane Doan is the face of the franchise and has proven to be a playmaker.
Since his arrival in 2009, coach Dave Tippet has revitalized the team’s performance on the ice.
The Coyotes are fortunate enough to call Jobing.com Arena home. After playing in America West Arena for several years, Jobing.com is a significant upgrade.
With the team’s talent, fan base and stellar facilities, teamed with proper leadership and financial backing, the NHL can be successful in Arizona.
