So, apparently we’re down two sports now.
With the NBA lockout beginning last Thursday, they joined the NFL in collective bargaining limbo.
Can you imagine a whole year without both pro football and pro basketball? It’d be devastating, it’d be unprecedented and it probably won’t happen.
We should have football, at least. The both players and owners in the NFL makes tons of money, and losing a season would be just dumb. I’m willing to bet a good portion of my meager income that an agreement will be reached before the season starts.
The NBA, however, is in a completely different boat. It’s no secret that several NBA teams are awash in red ink.
The owners are going to take a hard stance during negotiations. They need the money in order to survive, and honestly, I think a couple players could take a pay cut or two.
I don’t have much hope for the NBA this season. I’ve got a gut feeling this will end up just like the 2004-05 NHL season, or the season that never was. Six years later, hockey still hasn’t fully recovered.
The NBA has a plethora of big name stars right now. Losing the season would be disastrous.
