What happened to Monday Night Football?

Ever since the storied broadcast moved to ESPN, it’s lost some of its luster.

Mike Tirico sounds knowledgeable and is a solid play-by-play guy.

But he’s not very exciting.

And Ron Jaworski (or Jaws) and Jon Gruden are very good at stating the obvious, and not much else.

But the biggest killer is the matchups. They’re weak.

Well, not all of them. Vikings versus Packers on Week 10 and Bears-Eagles on Week Nine both look very promising, not matter what team you’re a fan of.

But Monday’s game, St. Louis at the Giants, was a classic example of this. New York took an early lead, and the Rams never really looked like coming back. But New York never really pulled away. The game just kind of sat in this grey area from halftime on.

And who really wants to watch the Rams vs. the Seahawks in Week 15? There are going to be games a lot more crucial right around then, and both of those teams will likely have losing records.

I would much rather watch Sunday Night Football. Even if the game is boring, I could listen to Al Michaels all night.

Even afternoon games on CBS seem more exciting.
