The frightening nightmare of a canceled 2011-12 NBA season is approaching reality closer and closer every day.

A report broke by ESPN.com’s Ric Bucher said on Thursday that the NBA will postpone the start of team training camps. What this really revealed was the lack of progress the players’ union and the owners, despite both sides making efforts to meet more frequently in recent weeks.

This should make basketball fans wonder, what is really happening behind closed doors?

Apparently, the biggest issue being discussed on the table is the revenue split between the players and owners. According to Bucher, layers have recently offered to lower their share from 57 to 54 percent to make up the $300 million the owners lost, yet their employers are demanding them to give up more.

At this rate, nobody should be expecting the season to begin on time anymore. Many players have already bought into the all-NBA Impact Competitive Basketball Series in Las Vegas, and are looking to make another league in October if the lockout continues.

Some are so certain that there will not be a season this year; three Denver Nuggets players have already jumped ship to the Chinese Basketball Association for a full season.

Looks like U.S. Airways Center will be empty for a while after the Phoenix Mercury finish their season.
