St. Vincent is a musician that is equal parts adorable and musically talented. Lucky for us, the brilliant singer-songwriter is visiting Arizona on Thursday night. Annie Clark plays under the moniker St. Vincent, and the name adds a bit of class to her music. St. Vincent has gained popularity extremely fast since her first album “Marry Me” in 2007.

With her third album being out for just over a month, St. Vincent is already out on her nationwide tour and is making a stop at the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix. Having just opened up in the month of October, the venue has had only a few celebrities on the stage, and St. Vincent is one of the most popular yet.

St. Vincent has played with some big artists since her early 2000s debut. She has opened for Andrew Bird, Death Cab for Cutie, Sufjan Stevens and many more. Clark has also collaborated with critically acclaimed indie folk group Bon Iver and other musicians.

Spin magazine put St. Vincent on a pedestal when they chose her as one of the top 30 artists that you must see on tour. Critics have only said good things about her live performances.

Her new album, “Strange Mercy,” shows a new side of her musical abilities and potential. Clark expresses herself passionately through empowering lyrics, necessary repetition and mesmerizing instrumentation. Listening to the new record gives fans a feeling of euphoria and infinite being.

St. Vincent’s tour for “Strange Mercy” has been and continues to be an emotional experience for Clark. She wrote the album as a “loneliness experiment” and the powerful lyrics show that. When her beautiful voice can’t sing anymore, her guitars and keyboards cover the rest.

St. Vincent is set to perform at the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix on Thursday, Oct. 20. Tickets start at $17. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.
