Police Beat: Oct. 19

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:

A 19-year-old Tempe man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of drug and drug paraphernalia possession and tampering with evidence, according to a police report.

The man’s roommate called police complaining the man was smoking marijuana in their shared dorm room and it was becoming an “ongoing problem,” according to the report.

When the officer knocked on the man’s bedroom door and told him it was the police, he could hear plastic bags being ripped open inside, according to the report.

The man then said “one second” several times with his mouth apparently full, according to the report. When the officer entered the room, he smelled marijuana and when he asked the man to open his mouth, there was a green leafy substance in his teeth, police reported.

The officer found a useable amount of marijuana inside a shoe in the man’s closet, an electric scale with marijuana residue and a marijuana “grinder,” according to the report.

The man then admitted to eating an unknown amount of marijuana to conceal it from police and hid the rest in his closet when he couldn’t eat it all, according to the report.

The man was booked into Tempe City Jail pending his charges, police reported.

A 21-year-old Phoenix woman was arrested Friday on suspicion of drug possession after she exchanged a marijuana cigarette for helping men pump gas at a gas station earlier in the day, according to a police report.

When police pulled over a car with five women near Seventh Street and Mill Avenue, officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside, according to the report.

The woman, a rear seat passenger, told police she purchased the marijuana, according to the report.

The women exited the car and the passenger handed the officer a burnt marijuana cigarette, police reported.

She said she bought the “blunt” earlier in the day for $2 from a gas station, according to the report.

She said she had assisted unknown men with pumping gas and they gave her the marijuana as a thank you, police reported.

The woman said they tried to light the cigarette but when they were unsuccessful, she put it in the rear passenger door handle, according to the report.

The woman was booked into Tempe City Jail and released pending her charges, police reported.
