Police beat: Oct. 4


Tempe Police reported the following incidents on Monday:

  • A 23-year-old Tempe woman was arrested Saturday afternoon on suspicion of unlawfully and recklessly discharging a firearm near the intersection of East Orange Street and South Dorsey Lane, according to a police report.A witness saw the woman fire three gun shots into the air with a small revolver and a number of witnesses saw the woman walking south on South Mariana Street holding a firearm, police reported.

    Tempe Police arrived on South Mariana Street and were able to detain the woman, police reported.

    Police found a small silver five-shot revolver on her person as well as three spent cartridges and one live cartridge, according to the report.

    Another witness was on scene before police arrived and had taken the gun away from the woman, police reported.

    The woman denied shooting the gun off into the air and was very intoxicated and repeatedly made incoherent comments, according to the report.

    The woman was arrested and taken Tempe City Jail for booking, police reported.

  • A 31-year-old Tempe man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of criminal damage and aggravated assault against his girlfriend at the 1300 block of West Fourth Street, according to a police report.Tempe Police arrived on scene and questioned the couple, to which the man said the two were in a verbal altercation but denied the altercation turning physical, police reported.

    The man said the couple began to argue but later stated the two began to throw CDs in and outside of their apartment, police reported.

    As police arrested the man, he said his girlfriend slapped him multiple times and kicked him in his left shin, according to the report.

    The girlfriend told police the man put her in a headlock to restrict her breathing leaving visible neck injuries before throwing and breaking items around their apartment, police reported.

    The woman denied prosecution of the man but the man was transported to Tempe City Jail for booking, according to the report.
