Both my parents spent the entirety of their adult lives working to either punish those responsible or treat those victimized by crimes against children.

So for me, as well as for everyone else following it, this Penn State story hits home.

As cynical as it might be, there will always be evil people in the world. It’s just how good people react to them that make the world better.

That’s what gets to me most about the whole situation. Over the course of my life, these heinous crimes have unfortunately become commonplace for me to hear about.

What’s not common, however, is when someone knows about them, but fails to take the appropriate steps to spot it. The word baffling comes to mind.

Joe Paterno went to his superior with the information he was given. Great, that’s awesome. But with something of such magnitude, don’t you, at the absolute least, follow through a couple days later?

Send a text, write a letter, do something.

The fact that I follow through on lunch plans better than a legendary coach follows through on child molestation allegations is unfathomable.

Have a nice life, Joe.

Oh yeah, by the way, did you get my email about grabbing Subway tomorrow?
