Similar to the buildup in electronic songs, there was heightened anticipation for Avicii’s turntable concert at the Phoenix Convention Center on Sunday, Jan 15.

Avicii’s 27-day House For Hunger tour is not only feeding his music-hungry fans, but also the homeless around the nation. Part of the proceeds from the tour will be donated to the organization Feeding America, so that he can share both his talents and profit.

Tim Bergling, the artist behind Avicii, hails from Sweden and has quickly received international fame. The Swedish DJ has become popular for infusing momentum in each of his songs. With his captivating beats, including the especially well-known track “My Feelings For You” produced with Sebastien Drums, he has continued to gain avid techno fans around the world.

On Sunday night, crowds of vibrantly and eccentrically dressed fans gathered to see the energetic collaboration of sight and sound. The hundreds of fans at the concert served as a testament to the growing spectrum of listeners that the DJ attracts.

The night started with the opening DJ’s rumbling bass and lively beats to get the crowd dancing. Young adults and teenagers quickly filled the dance floor as the opening DJ played an energetic set.

When Avicii took the stage he had the untamed crowd jumping and shaking to his mixes “Fade into Darkness” and “Seek Bromance.” The performer lit up the stage both literally and figuratively.

After hours of nonstop dancing, the crowd seemed to be on its last ounce of energy. However, Avicii revitalized the audience with a Skrillex remix of his wildly popular song, “Levels.”

Fans of the artist are excited Avicii’s unique sound is catching on in the United States. ASU senior Michael Woody hopes that Avicii’s performance will encourage more electronic artists to come to Phoenix.

“I think it’s great that DJs like Avicii are gaining so much mainstream popularity,” Woody said. “It’s exposing a whole new group of people to Phoenix’s growing rave scene.”

As seen by the success of Avicii’s concert, there is a bright and colorful future for the techno fan base in Phoenix.
