Saturday night’s hockey game at Jobing.com Arena was an exciting one, to say the least.

Shane Doan recorded his first career hat trick in his 16th NHL season just before the final buzzer, locking away the Coyotes’ 5-1 victory over the New York Islanders.

A hat trick is accomplished when a player records three of something during a single competition - it can be goals, hits or touchdowns - but the expression is most commonly associated with hockey. It is a tradition for hockey fans to toss their hats onto the ice in recognition of such a triumph.

Doan not scoring a hat track until his 1,161st NHL game shows how difficult it is to accomplish in hockey.

What about other sports?

Have you ever watched a soccer game and an hour goes by without anyone scoring a single goal? Or watched a baseball game in which your favorite player can’t seem to get the bat on the ball?

It’s something special when players see their long hours of hard work and dedication pay off with such impressive feats.
