For the first time in 16 years, Gus Johnson will not be calling a game during the NCAA basketball tournament.

If you’ve watched a NCAA tournament in the past decade, you’ve probably heard at least a game or two called by Johnson.

Johnson’s play-calls and CBS’s catchy March Madness song amplified the drama of so many tournament games over the years.

His animated voice and enthusiasm made every game he called sound like an instant classic.

In the NCAA tournament, where close, emotional games occur often, who better to call the games than Johnson?

But, the iconic play-by-play announcer no longer works for CBS. Johnson was hired by FOX Sports after failing to reach a deal with CBS this past spring

With FOX, he called the inaugural Big Ten football championship game, in which Wisconsin narrowly defeated Michigan State.

FOX doesn’t broadcast the NCAA tournament, and without Johnson announcing games this year, March Madness won’t be the same.
