The ASU track and field team will start its outdoor season this weekend as they compete in the Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe.
It also marks the first Sun Devils home meet this year.
The Sun Devils won't have a lot of athletes compete because of the recent end of the indoor season and will give others a chance to step up to the sport’s highest level.
Among these are junior Chris Burrows, who will be running in his first home meet for the Sun Devils. The junior college transfer said he is ready to run in front of the Sun Devil crowd for the first time.
“I feel like we have a pretty good fan base, and I'm excited for them to cheer us on,” Burrows said. “I feel like they will push us to do better.”
Sophomore thrower Anna Jelmini, who is coming off a fifth place finish in last weekend's NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, is ready for the outdoor season to start for one reason.
“My favorite event is discus, and you can't really throw discus indoors, unfortunately,” Jelmini said.
Other events that will begin during the outdoor season include the hammer throw and the steeplechase.
The Sun Devils will start the meet Friday, but the bulk of the events will be held Saturday at Sun Angel Stadium.
