Do you believe in Magic? Apparently the Los Angeles Dodgers do.

On Saturday, the Dodgers rolled over the San Diego Padres to improve their record to 8-1 on the season, their best start to a season in decades. It’s hard to say new owner Magic Johnson is the reason for the team’s success over the past week, but it’s hard to not believe his ownership has already breathed life and hope into the team.

People have dismissed the Dodgers’ winning record to start the season because of the team’s weak schedule. But they’re doing exactly what they’re supposed to be doing: handling weaker opponents —something not every team has been able to do this year.

As a fan of the Dodgers, it’s easy to say this is one of the most exciting starts to a season in recent memory. What makes it more thrilling is the team is getting the job done on the field without having signed a big-time free agent in the offseason.

With Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw leading the charge on the field, and one of the city’s most beloved athletes at the helm of the organization, it’s not crazy to think the “Boys in Blue” can keep this up all year and finally bring glory back to Chavez Ravine for the first time since 1988.
