What makes sports awesome is that they are always changing.

Sometimes the changes are for the better, such as instant replay, and sometimes they are bad, like instant replay in baseball.

One significant change I can’t help but notice is the increased coverage and publicity in women's sports.

This step forward was revealed by the increased coverage of the women’s NCAA tournament on ESPN during March.

But it hasn’t just been college basketball. The women’s World Cup, NCAA softball, NCAA soccer and even high school basketball have all made appearances on the major sports networks, painting a more resolute image of women’s sports to the general public.

No matter who wins the tournament on Thursday, sports fans should rejoice this change. It means the networks have taken a giant leap forward into comprehensive coverage of all sports.

This dynamic shouldn’t be undervalued, because in my time covering women’s sports, I have seen just how competitive they can be.
