Arizona Cardinals stuck in messy quarterback situation, picking between “awful” choices

Which NFL team hasn’t named a starting quarterback yet? Your Arizona Cardinals.

Rightfully so, Kevin Kolb and John Skelton both look awful.

It only makes sense coach Ken Whisenhunt doesn’t expect either quarterback to play in the team’s preseason finale on Thursday.

Wait, what?

Whisenhunt is in a pretty bad situation. Kolb, who the Cardinals gave away cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second-round pick for last year, has an impressive 49.7-passer rating in four preseason games.

Skelton’s rating is a bit better at 50.6.

Yes, it’s preseason. But they don’t look good in preseason. Just imagine how bad they'll be when it really matters.

Now they get just two days of practice and one walkthrough to prove they’re worthy of the starting position.

What exactly will Whisenhunt see in that span that will separate one from the other?

Throw them out there against the Denver Broncos on Thursday. It’ll give the organization one more look at Skelton and Kolb against another defense.

There’s no downside, except picking between Kolb and Skelton as the starting quarterback after the game.
