Residents in the Valley were able to beat the record-breaking heat with many great summer concerts. Here are a few notable shows from the past three months.

A Change of Pace (May 25): These local rockers went through a lineup change before disbanding, to the dismay of their numerous fans. However, the announcement of a reunion concert brought droves of longtime fans to Peoria to see the band rock out with the original lineup before announcing they would be recording a new album.

The Rocket Summer (June 9): Inspirational pop-rock artist Bryce Avary swept into the Valley this summer, bringing his cheerful tunes with him. Joined on tour by The Scene Aesthetic, Avary kept fans smiling throughout the entirety of his lengthy set. The interactive nature of the concert had everyone in the venue singing along to even the newer songs on the set list.

One Direction (June 10): It was a British invasion when mega-popular boy band One Direction took over downtown Phoenix for its Up All Night tour. Screaming girls of all ages flooded the streets hoping to get a glimpse while the fans lucky enough to get tickets to the sold-out show danced the night away to the group’s catchy pop hits.

Foxy Shazam (June 23): Described as the next coming of band Queen, glam rockers Foxy Shazam brought their psychedelic experience to Crescent Ballroom in June. The volume never decreased inside the packed venue as the opening bands set the mood for the insanity that is Foxy’s set. The evening’s highlight was lead singer Eric Nally smoking — and eating — seven lit cigarettes onstage.

Vans Warped Tour (June 28): Thousands of music lovers braved the record-breaking Arizona heat this June to see their favorite bands rock the Vans Warped Tour stop in Glendale. With bands in every genre: from rock and metal to hip-hop and reggae, there was something for everyone who came out to one of the biggest traveling music festivals of the year.

Demi Lovato (July 13): Disney darling Demi Lovato mounted a comeback with her high-energy performance at Comerica Theatre in July. Joined by pop-rockers Hot Chelle Rae, Lovato’s talent and energy kept the diverse crowd entertained and dancing the whole night. There were even some tears shed as Lovato implored her fans to stay strong even when times are tough, citing her own experiences with self-harm, eating disorders, and depression.

Relient K (Aug. 1):  The Marquee Theater saw a significant amount of traffic when Relient K, Hellogoodbye and others took the stage for a surprisingly rousing rock show. The all-ages audience jumped, clapped and sang along to hits from all the bands and gave everything they had when Relient K bounded on stage to close what was a fantastic show from start to finish.
