On Tuesday, the NFL lost a man who made a big impact on fans through film.
The president of NFL Films, Steve Sabol, passed away Tuesday after losing his battle with brain cancer over the past 18 months.
It’s a tough loss for every NFL fan as Sabol’s films were an intricate part of how they saw the NFL. NFL Films incorporated ingenious techniques into their films with players wired with microphones, blooper reels and use of slow-motion replay. These techniques, brought on by Sabol and his father, eventually lead to NFL Films to becoming one of the most beloved sports shows of all-time.
The effect that Sabol had on the game of football is unparalleled. He gave fans a new way to see the game they loved with his artistic and carefully crafted highlight films. The contributions he made to the NFL off the field are second to no one. Sabol gave the world art, in the form of NFL highlight reels.
It won’t be too long before Sabol is officially enshrined alongside his father and other NFL greats in Canton. But by the time that day comes, his legend will have been long been enshrined in the hearts of NFL fans everywhere.
