The “X-Men: First Class” sequel is officially going to be called, “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” The name sparked excitement for X-Men fans because it contains one of the best storylines in X-Men history.

The storyline, published in “The Uncanny X-Men” issues #141 and #142 in 1981, is about a dystopian alternative future where mutants are being put into internment camps and are hunted down by giant robots called Sentinels.

How “Days of Future Past” will be adapted into film will be anyone’s guess, but fans are thrilled to see this popular storyline on the big screen.

On a sadder note, Matthew Vaughn, director of “X-Men: First Class” and “Kick-Ass,” has officially dropped out of directing the next X-Men sequel. The sequel already has a script ready and the cast on board including Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence.

Vaughn is jumping ship as he is leaving his X-Men project and setting his sights on a different comic book series. The director wants to bring Mark Millar’s comic book series “Secret Service” to life on screen.

Millar created the comic “Kick-Ass,” which Vaughn previously directed.

Vaughn’s abandonment of the X-Men sequel leaves the production without a director.

Who will be taking Matthew Vaughn’s place? Twentieth Century Fox’s top choice is Bryan Singer.

Even though Bryan Singer hasn’t officially taken the director’s seat yet, he has been involved with the X-Men series since 2000. Singer directed the first two X-Men movies, “X-Men” and “X2.”

Singer directed the X-Men movies that starred Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellen. Singer was also the producer on “First Class.”

However, the director has walked away from an X-Men sequel in the past. Singer turned down the third X-Men movie, “X-Men: The Last Stand,” to work on “Superman Returns.”

While there are not any guarantees, fans will be glad to have the returning director take on the X-Men mantle. “X-Men: Days of Future Past” is set hit theaters on July 18, 2014.
