Oakland A’s emerge again after seizing AL West

We may be watching the sequel to a movie unfold right in front of our eyes.

The Oakland Athletics completed a huge comeback on Wednesday afternoon by sweeping the Texas Rangers to win the AL West on the last day of the season. Unless you’re a Rangers fan, you can’t help but love what the A’s accomplished this year.

What Oakland did is the reason baseball fans love the sport of baseball. The A’s, who started the season with the second lowest payroll in baseball, uprooted the Rangers out of a spot that Texas had been in for most of the season. The A’s spent a total of one day in that spot, the final day of the year.

Most fans became familiar with Oakland’s organization after the movie “Moneyball” debut across America. It was based on a system of numbers that most people felt couldn’t work. But just like in the movie, once in a while, it comes together so perfectly, that it triumphs what a movie could do.

Nothing can capture the true amazingness of what occurred in Oakland back in 2002, or 10 years later in 2012 and the beauty of baseball.

Hopefully this Cinderella story isn’t over yet and could maybe finally give this sequel the ending that the first couldn’t — a World Series championship.
