More than 5,000 community members helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars by either walking or running the 5K Phoenix AIDS Walk. This event started in the late ’80s, but was discontinued in 2003 after the main contributor and host of the event halted its services. However, this did not stop many driven and passionate individuals who realized the number of people with HIV/AIDS was still growing. They called on Aunt Rita’s Foundation for support in 2007, who gladly accepted the challenge of restoring the event, and has been the backbone of the AIDS Walk for the past five years. Today, many people receive treatment because of this event and community support.
