Czaus places fourth in Bruin Diving Invitational

Since sustaining a lower back injury for the first half of the ASU dive team's season, sophomore diver Sydney Czaus has been working on returning back to form.

Sunday was a big step, as Czaus competed in the Bruin Diving Invitational in Los Angeles on the platform dive.

Czaus garnered a fourth-place finish and a score that qualified her for the Zone Championships later this year — two things that impressed head diving coach Mark Bradshaw.

"My experience has been with this type of injury is you can’t get too crazy (with it)," Bradshaw said. "It has to be all processing getting back into diving full time and she’s not there yet, which is why she’s only really been training for the platform event."

Czaus will continue to work on getting back to full strength, but Bradshaw said it's still going to take time.

"She can only take so much training per week," Bradshaw said. "She’s progressing along nicely. We just got to manage that, seeing how she’s taking it, it’s a day by day thing."
