Since the last two blogs have revolved around humor and cuteness, it’s time to switch things up. This week’s edition is dedicated to those on YouTube who truly have a talent for music. Chances are good that some songs will be recognizable. The true test is who is better: the original artist or those performing the covers?
1. “Daylight” by Maroon 5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udb1jmH-37I)
Maroon 5 can do no wrong, and luckily this trio of musicians took careful note of that. Instead of sitting in front of a webcam and letting the virtual world hear screeches remotely resembling singing, the trio clearly put time and effort into their cover. It can be a bit eerie how the singer occasionally sounds a bit like Demi Lovato.

The true shining star from YouTube (not Justin Bieber) is Jason Chen. Chen’s incredible ability to stay on key and sound brilliant is remarkable.
3. “A Little Piece of Heaven” by Avenged Sevenfold

Most mainstream rockers have a tendency to sound like one another, yet Avenged Sevenfold has always remained unique. It’s a delight to watch a truly talented band take a piece and replicate it nicely.
4. “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry

Three sisters attempted their own version of “If I Die Young” absolutely beautifully. The effect produced by their voices and the impeccable guitar playing is spine chilling to say the least.
5. “Marry The Night” by Lady Gaga

It was merely instinctive to place a Lady Gaga cover in this week’s edition of Spin The Reel. Many Little Monsters attended Wednesday night’s concert to watch Mama Monster in all her glory. Camile Velasco and company incorporate vocals and various instruments, resulting in quite an epic cover.
