The ASU wrestling team couldn’t build off last week’s improvement at Iowa State and fell Saturday night to Oregon State 42-4.

The loss was the Sun Devils’ (7-11, 2-2 Pac-12) third single-digit point effort in the past four duals and their sixth straight loss overall.

Extra points again proved to be an issue for the Sun Devils as they allowed three pins in the final five matches to the Beavers (10-5, 3-1 Pac-12).

Redshirt freshman Drew Van Anrooy scored the first pin of the night over ASU freshman Ares Carpio at 133 pounds at 2:52.

OSU Junior RJ Pena and redshirt freshman Seth Thomas then finished off the dual with consecutive pins of their own, defeating redshirt sophomore Joel Smith and freshman Ray Waters, respectively.

The lone Sun Devil victory of the night came from redshirt sophomore Kevin Radford, who defeated sophomore Brian Engdahl by major decision 19-9.

The win was Radford’s sixth in his past nine matches.

Redshirt senior Jake Meredith and redshirt sophomore Blake Stauffer were once again forced out of the dual because of injury.

Stauffer has been out since early January with a neck injury. Meredith returned last weekend against the Cyclones but was out again due to lingering effects from a concussion.

The Sun Devils return home for their final match of the regular season next Friday against Cal Poly.
